Snow-timate!

Today the two Friends of the Parks/After School Matters Ultimate programs met for a snowy scrimmage in Humboldt Park. This was the first time the two programs met this semester and one of the few opportunities left in the year for a successful scrimmage. The weather cooperated , as much as one could have expected it to in December in Chicago, enough to provide us with a perfect day for snow-ultimate. Most of the Humboldt Park crew was made up by returning players from last year who, as I immediately noticed, had vastly improved their basic skills over last year. Just after the friendly trash talking had finished and the teens began to warm up their arms, I could see the improvement they had made in their throwing form. Their forehand throws looked clean and flew well even into the wind, they were reading the disc much better, and once the scrimmage began I was treated to their much improved disc movement and field sense.

It was good to see those guys again and I hope they continue to stay in the program. Despite the cold, it was a successful day of ultimate, and I look forward to more scrimmages in the spring session.
